What adventure to expect


Day 1: Nairobi to Marsabit

Begin your adventure bright and early, departing Nairobi at 4:00 am.  Enjoy breakfast and lunch along the scenic route, with a stop for photos and sightseeing at the stunning Mt. Ololokwe.  Continue on to Marsabit, where you’ll travel up to the picturesque Lake Paradise.  Arrive just in time to witness wildlife gathering for their evening drink, and soak in a breath taking sunset over the hills.  Dinner and overnight stay at a comfortable hotel in Marsabit.

Day 2: Marsabit to Kalacha to North Horr

After breakfast, embark on an exciting journey across the vast Chalbi Desert, passing by the impressive rock dunes at its heart. The route takes you to the scenic Gamura Oasis in Maikona, known for its shallow wells—a refreshing sight amid the arid landscape. Continue onward to Kalacha, a charming oasis that offers an unexpected respite in the desert. From there, head toward North Horr to visit the closest Chalbi Desert rock dune. As night falls, take advantage of the clear desert skies for an unforgettable stargazing experience, finding peace and tranquillity after an adventurous day in the desert.

Day 3: North Horr to Loiyangalani

After breakfast, journey south to Loiyangalani, a tourist town on the shores of Lake Turkana, the largest permanent desert lake in the world.  Arrive in time for lunch, then take a boat trip to Komote Island, home to the famous El Molo people, who rely entirely on the lake for their livelihood.  For a dose of adventure, explore the South Island National Park, a famous breeding ground for Nile crocodiles, also known as "Reptile Island."  End the day with a scenic sundowner on the lake, a perfect way to cap off your visit.

Day 4: Loiyangalani to Ngurunit

Begin your day exploring the lakeside town before setting off to Ngurunit, an oasis nestled amid the Ndoto Ranges, renowned for its rich birdlife.  En route, make a stop at the Lake Turkana Wind Farm, where natural beauty meets renewable energy innovation, and see a unique glimpse into the lives of the people who inhabit this remote region.  This journey takes you through one of Kenya’s lesser travelled landscapes, revealing the rugged and captivating terrain of the northern frontier.  End the day with dinner and an overnight stay at Camp Ndoto, where you’ll be serenaded by birdsong against the backdrop of the ranges.

Day 5: Ngurunit to Nairobi

In the morning, visit the village and pick up some unique souvenirs before beginning the journey back to the city.  The road from Ngurunit to Laisamis is a stretch of rugged corrugated road, which then transitions to smooth tarmac, continue on to Nairobi to arrive early in the evening.

  • Comfortable outdoor shoes
  • Hat for sun protection
  • Sunscreen
  • Warm Jacket for cooler weather
  • Drinks, mineral water and snacks
  • Toiletries (towel, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, toilet paper, etc)
  • Small bag for personal items 
  • Passport or identification card
