What adventure to expect


Day 1: Nairobi to Laikipia to Nanyuki – Visit the Pokot Community

Depart Nairobi early in the morning and journey to Nanyuki.  Upon arrival, enjoy a hearty breakfast at your hotel before heading to Mugie Ranch for a cultural experience with the Pokot community.  Dive into their rich traditions, agricultural practices, and captivating ceremonies.  Return to your hotel in Nanyuki later for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Nanyuki to Samburu – Visit the Samburu Community

Head to the stunning landscapes of Samburu, upon arrival, check into your lodge and prepare for a culturally rich experience.  Visit a traditional Samburu village to delve into their vibrant customs and traditions.  Engage in daily activities alongside the community and savour a delicious, authentic Samburu meal.  Embark on an exciting game drive through the Samburu National Reserve, home to unique wildlife such as Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostriches, and gerenuks.  End your day with a dinner back at the lodge, where you unwind and stay overnight.

Day 3: Samburu to Ngurunit – Visit the Samburu Moran Community

Begin with a scenic drive from Samburu to the picturesque village of Ngurunit.  Along the way, take a memorable stop at the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary, where you’ll witness the inspiring efforts of community-led wildlife conservation and get up close to rescued elephants.  Continue your journey to Ngurunit, a hidden gem nestled at the foot of the majestic Ndoto Mountains.  Upon arrival, check into your accommodation and set out for a refreshing nature walk through the Ndoto Conservancy, culminating at the serene Derawai rock slides, where you can relax and cool off.  As the evening sets in, join the vibrant Samburu Moran for an enchanting cultural dance and enjoy in their rich traditions, music, and the warmth of community spirit for an unforgettable cultural experience.

Day 4: Ngurunit to Korr to Ngurunit – Visit the Rendille Community

Enjoy the scenic drive to Korr to visit the Rendille community.  Explore their fascinating camel husbandry, distinctive traditional attire, and nomadic way of life.  Participate in their daily activities and cultural practices to gain a deeper appreciation of their unique heritage.  In the afternoon, head back to Ngurunit for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 5: Ngurunit to Loiyangalani – Visit the Turkana Community

Drive to Loiyangalani, which is situated on the eastern shore of Lake Turkana.  On the way, pass by the Lake Turkana Wind Farm, a remarkable example of sustainable energy development in the region. Travel along the shores of Lake Turkana, pausing at the Turkana Manyatta for a rich cultural experience with the Turkana community.  After your visit, continue to your hotel for lunch while taking in the stunning views of the lake.  Spend the afternoon exploring Loiyangalani town, immersing yourself in the daily life of the locals and engaging with the community to deepen your understanding of their unique way of life.

Day 6: Loiyangalani – Visit the El Molo Community

Explore Loiyangalani and visit the El Molo community on El Molo Island.  Discover their traditional shrines and delve into the unique cultural practices of the El Molo, one of Northern Kenya's smallest tribes.  Return to Loiyangalani and visit the Desert Cultural Museum to gain a deeper understanding of the region's rich history.  Visit the Turkana village in Loiyangalani town for a closer look at local life. End the day with a relaxing sundowner by Lake Turkana, soaking in the tranquil sunset and breathtaking views.

Day 7: Loiyangalani to North Hoor to Kalacha – Visit the Gabra Community

Depart from Loiyangalani and set out on a scenic drive to North Horr.  Marvel at the striking sand dunes and the lush North Horr Oasis, a serene contrast to the arid surroundings. Engage in the cultural richness and practices of a traditional Gabra village and learn about their unique practices and traditions.  After experiencing their warm hospitality, continue your journey across the expansive Gabra land to Kalacha.  Conclude your day with an overnight stay in Kalacha.

Day 8: Kalacha to Marsabit – Visit the Borana Community

Travel to Marsabit, a town celebrated for its verdant forested landscapes amidst the arid environment.  Visit Marsabit National Park and Marsabit Lake, and explore the area's rich biodiversity, diverse flora and fauna, and take in the striking contrast between the lush highlands and the surrounding desert.  Continue your journey to explore the Borana community's cultural heritage.  Renowned pastoralists, the Borana people are also known for their unique clan systems, traditional music, and elaborate rituals.  Visit a Borana village to gain insights into their livestock-based economy, traditional dwellings, and age-set social structure, which is integral to their community organization.  Participate in cultural activities, witness traditional dances and ceremonies that showcase the Borana’s vibrant traditions.  End the day with an overnight stay in Marsabit.

Day 9: Marsabit to Nairobi

Relish the scenic drive back to Nairobi, reflecting on the rich cultural encounters and breathtaking landscapes experienced over the past days.  Arrive in Nairobi by the afternoon.

  • Clothes should be lightweight/ breathable fabrics for hot weather
  • Modest clothing: to respect local customs
  • Hat for sun protection, sunscreen
  • Insect Repellent, hand sanitizer and wet wipes
  • Warm Jacket/Sweater for cooler weather
  • Swimwear
  • Cultural attire – if you choose to
  • Drinks, mineral water and snacks
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Toiletries (towel, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, toilet paper, shampoo, etc)
  • Small backpack for personal items 
  • Cash: local currency where cards might not be accepted
  • Passport or identification card
